Pau Gasol likely back on team next season

Everyone's expecting the Lakers to shake up their roster this offseason. Simers about the chances of Bynum and Gasol both being with the team for the start of the 2012-13 season, Buss responded, "Very good."

Buss said he does not agree with those calling for Gasol to be traded. "I think changes are going to be made moving Pau lower to the basket," Buss told Simers. "We can improve that way with a change in coaching strategy rather than a change in personnel."

Buss also expressed confidence in Bynum, who had the best year of his career this past season but whose attitude was far from exemplary.

"I expect Andrew to mature as a player and as a person this upcoming season," Buss said.

In addition to no major trades, Buss does not expect any big free agent signings, either. The Lakers will try to bring back Ramon Sessions, who will opt for free agency rather than exercise his player option for next season.

Lakers great Magic Johnson has been leading the charge among those imploring the organization to shake things up, insisting the team is not championship-caliber the way it is currently constructed.

Johnson, now an NBA analyst on ESPN, said on-air recently, "Jim Buss, brother, you have a job to do. I'm telling you right now because if you don't do it, you're going to hear from me." Magic also tweeted, "If I were Kobe (Bryant), I'd be calling Jim Buss every day until the Lakers make some changes."

"He sounds like a TV analyst to me," Buss told Simers. "That's his job to give opinions. I don't have a problem with that, and like a good Lakers fan he just wants us to get better. So do I."
